I totally got this idea off a post I saw on Twitter the other day. Here's a link to the original poster, if you want to check out their work. https://twitter.com/plugusin/status/1558438253656670210
A long time ago, I used to give root word quizzes in my biology classes. At first we started out just going through them alphabetically but then moved to grouping them by unit and giving the ones that pertained to that unit as a separate quiz. This was ok...but it took time to assess, and quite frankly, it was too easy to just memorize right before the quiz and then forget. So the assessments themselves seemed to be pointless.
Now, I discuss the root meanings as we learn vocabulary terms. I underline the parts of the word and write out their key terms. This is usually as we take notes in our notebook. Then I saw the tweet and thought, this would make a great word wall. So I jumped onto Canva (if you don't have an educator account, act now!) and created posters for our major roots. I could have done 100 of them but I stuck to the ones that kids seem to struggle with the most or the ones that come up in multiple units.
Here's a look at them.
If you want a PDF copy, here is the file. I plan on printing them 2 per page and then cutting them out. I'll update later with pics!
Happy Teaching!
